Diving into a Bizarre Steam Demo: Guiding a Turdy Character with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have found numerous engaging creations from small studios. However, one catches the eye for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired jumping adventure includes a hero that is truly a dung attempting to navigate to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."
Player controls is simple: just use a one button to leap. Across 150 challenges, you'll face boss fights and visit a store to buy skins for your poop character.
Plan your movements with caution, as a mistake forces restarting the level. Jump off floating orbs to hurl the poop to new heights, navigate fragile platforms, and activate triggers to unlock new areas. Earn currency for buying more difficult game content as the action gets crazy.
Graphically, the demo features eye-catching stages and an amazing music score. The retro visual style featuring morphing abstract forms could recall fans of old favorites like Earthbound.
Although hard to think of other games where you are a piece of feces, gaming have long featured toilet humor. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can craft throwables from protagonist droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as fertilizer. And of course, this theme shows up heavily in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its silly concept, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive awards, including being named best at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is accessible now on Steam, with the full game planned to arrive on Steam in the fall.
